Tips On Post Processing Software
November 07, 2012 • Leave a Comment
I have often been asked "What is the best software to use to post process my photos?". Most people that ask me that question are point and shoot camera owners. For the longest time I would have said Photoshop Elements, but now I recommend Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.0. They are both available for about the same price, but have significant differences. The most notably of which is the ease of use or "learning curve". Lightroom is pretty straight forward and has a simple workflow.
As a disclaimer; I have been a full version Photoshop user for over twenty years and have never used Elements. It is a scaled down product of the full version. I just think that Lightroom provides the average user with all they need to get great post results in a short period of time. The best part is that it is non-destructive by nature. That means you are always working on a virtual copy of the original photo.
In addition to a great way to make your photos look fantastic, it is a catalogue software that allows you to keep albums, and find those photos you are looking for very quickly.
But wait, there's more.. You can create professional slideshows, web galleries and a print module that kicks butt. The above photo was shot yesterday, on my daily walk, and processed in Lightroom in a few minutes.
If you want to make your photos look great and are willing to spend some time in post, I strongly recommend Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.0
Have fun shooting. (And yes. Those trees really lean that way.)
